Nothing warms you up in the winter like a bowl of classic chili. Try this recipe the next time you want some comfort food on a cold day. It's ready to eat in about 30 minutes and makes six servings.
Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 medium yellow onion, diced
- 1 pound lean ground beef
- 2 1/2 tablespoons chili powder
- 2 tablespoons ground cumin
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 2 tablespoons tomato paste
- 1 tablespoon garlic powder
- 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
- 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cayenne pepper (optional)
- 1 1/2 cups beef broth
- 1 (15 oz.) can petite diced tomatoes
- 1 (16 oz.) can red kidney beans, drained and rinsed
- 1 (8 oz.) can tomato sauce
Instructions
- Add the oil to a large pot and bring over medium-high heat. Add the onion and cook for five minutes.
- Add the ground beef and break apart with a wooden spoon. Cook until the beef is browned, about six to seven minutes.
- Add the spices, sugar, and tomato paste to the pot. Stir until combined.
- Add the beef broth, petite diced tomatoes, drained kidney beans, and tomato sauce. Stir until combined. Bring to a boil and reduce the heat. Simmer, uncovered, for 20 to 25 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Remove from the heat and let sit for five to 10 minutes. Serve with desired toppings, such as crackers, avocado, shredded cheese, sour cream, or scallions.
